Why this dog-home ?
Why should it stay open … for ever ?

Dear Friends,
I know it may seem strange to you that somebody already deeply involved in a difficult work, should decide to open and maintain a Dog Home, what
I call "Rifugio", that is : Shelter.
It's something I organized and kept going all on my own, because I was unsuccessful when I tried to find associates. Who would have been willing to embark on an endeavour that entailed being busy on holidays, performing "hard work", having substantial expenses without a financial return ?
Don't go and tell anyone that you've had a sleepless night drip-feeding a stray-dog or your friends will promptly recommend psy assistance.
Why did I do it ?
Perhaps because I love Nature and its creatures, but hate hypocrisy. I had enough of good words never followed by action nor generosity.
I jumped into it, and have never regretted.
It took a lot of effort to save thousands from the city's kennel, where they were given from three to seven days and then were … put to sleep.
Did you ever walk along a long line of cages in a kennel? Have you ever seen hope and despair in a dog's eyes? Have you ever realised he should bark but is silent, because death is looming, and death commands silence? Try this exercise, and take this nightmare into bed with you.
Finally, in 1991, the law prohibited the execution of stray dogs.
I have also accepted thousands whose bad masters would have dumped just to be run over, and die a miserable death with broken limbs, alive prey of voracious rats.
I meant to help but only to be a temporary shelter, a well organized place where to restore health and hope, and give them a second chance. I had begun this activity in favour of dogs, when my green years were already far and forgotten. Lately, I asked my p.c. how many dogs had already left the Rifugio with a new reliable, loving master. The figure was there on the screen and I was surprised: 6.500.
Do you realize it ?
6.500 creatures that had knocked at my door
in distress, sometimes ill, and too often wounded,
and were now happy with a new family!
I had been right. The results justified what I had done, and also all that I had given up. So I opened a site:

just to say there is nothing extraordinary about it, that it only takes a lot of determination, and satisfaction is the positive results.
The site shows also the pictures of the unlucky ones that never had any chance, and remained in the Rifugio, or returned to it when their master died and nobody cared for the dog. They are all here with me in the Rifugio, and well looked after.
For them, I propose to give the Rifugio a little help.
It does not take much, if many new friends answer my call !
Let's suppose one of you is willing to give 1euro a week, this comes to 52euros per year.
Let's suppose there are
one hundred, or perhaps one thousand willing friends …. ?!
Let me hope you are ready to support my effort.
Given my age, I know I may have to stop my activity any moment, but there is something that must not stop: our help to stray dogs.
The Rifugio must go on.
We must keep the door open to our needy friends,
that they may find shelter, help and a second chance.
This can only be done if you are ready to help, thus giving me hope that what I started will be continued.
